Background of The Congo Cause
The CongoCause was an offshoot idea that began in early 2008. The concept of The Congo Cause grew as a a Detroit area student was asked by UNA-DRC to fund raise for mosquito bed nets. The student saw the new for awareness about Congo in the United States during the fund raising activities in spring of 2008.
A student team had already been working with UNA-DRC on a graduate school project, AmaniDRC.org, a web portal that was originally developed by graduate students attending the University of Michigan-Flint Technology in Education Global Program. The original team attended coursework in Geneva, Switzerland in the summer of 2007 and 2008, as well as online coursework during 2007 and 2008. The 15 month program finished in summer of 2008 with final coursework and graduation at the Geneva, Switzerland residency.
The student team attended the WFUNA Human Rights Conference at the United Nations (UN) and observed Dr. Cissa Wa Numbe as he participated on the WFUNA panel during the Human Rights Conference. During our residency in Geneva, we met Dr. Cissa Wa Numbe, UNA Secretary General, (Director) beginning the partnership with him and UNA-DRC.
Here are some photographs from the WFUNA Humans Rights Conference, held at the UN, July 30 to July 31, 2007.
